The Department of Medicine is seeking a Staff Research Associate 1 to join a dynamic research team focused on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic dysfunction and insulin resistance. This position involves in vivo rodent research, including the maintenance of a genetically engineered mouse colony, murine tissue dissection, and the isolation and analysis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. Responsibilities also include performing qRT-PCR, immunoblotting, and supporting rodent exercise studies. In addition, the role will contribute to overall laboratory operations, including organization, maintenance, and ensuring a well-functioning research environment.
Hourly range: $28.69-$34.21

Required:
- General knowledge of substrate metabolism and exercise physiology
- Good work ethic, communication skills and ability to work well independently or as a part of a group.
- General knowledge of immunology and molecular biology.

- Understanding of University procedures and policies for ordering and biohazard, radioactive and chemical waste disposal.
- Working knowledge of the microscope and basic laboratory equipment (centrifuge, incubators, spectrophotometer, PCR, Q-PCR).
- Skill in using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent skills in problem solving and data analysis, organization and presentation.
- General knowledge of chemistry and meticulous preparation of reagents.
Preferred:
- Experienced in working with mice and ARC certified to work with mice.
- Molecular Biology, Physiology or Chemistry and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
