What you will do

In this vital role you will lead therapeutically aligned activities to develop strategic objectives & tactics in collaboration with Medical for National Accounts and prioritized regional accounts. The Medical Value & Access Accounts Director is also responsible for the following:

  • Effectively leads a regional payer team of Medical Value & Access Liaisons (MVALs) toward the implementation of field medical payer activities by communicating expectations and guiding the team to optimize medical strategy, prioritization and performance in support of medical objectives
  • Ensure the team achieves legally compliant and clinically significant scientific engagements and activities with population health decision-makers, payers, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and other healthcare partners in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, industry codes, and the Amgen Code of Conduct
  • Strategic leader who develops and maintains professional relationships with targeted Payer & Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN) population health decision makers relative to the Amgen Oncology, Inflammation, Gen Med & Rare Disease portfolio
  • Accompany the team to engagements with healthcare decision-makers and other healthcare collaborators to assess strengths, proficiency and provide timely and constructive performance feedback
  • Familiar with data & biotechnology techniques to accelerate health outcomes through enhanced patient identification & access, with a reimagined customer experience
  • Apply interactive, aligned discussions, and guided activities to help the team identify career opportunities for growth and leadership within and beyond the Medical Liaison role. This will inspire them to take an active role in their individual career development and enhance their personal and professional potential
  • Lead and coordinate MVAL team meetings to support team building, best practice sharing, development, retaining top talent, and the accomplishment of field medical objectives.
  • Build upon positive relationships and cross-functional collaboration with key internal collaborators in Global Medical, US Field Sales, Value and Access and Value Marketing teams to facilitate a One-Amgen customer-facing engagement strategy and champion the value of the MVAL team. May serve as a leader for innovative & critical cross-functional initiatives
  • Identify, interview, hire, and onboard qualified MVALs to create a diverse and inclusive team
  • Assess MVAL new hire field readiness by assisting Global Learning and Performance in the Amgen portfolio, Payer & healthcare landscape, disease state, and product training, including assistance with post-training proficiency assessment
  • Assist Medical leadership in the development of the field medical strategy, tactical goals and objectives, and Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs)
  • Support the strategic planning and field medical value implementation of Managed Care/Payer and national congresses. May serve as the FD lead for a congress
  • Leads integration of comprehensive value & total cost of care models with MVAL team to enhance the level of internal/external payer & IDN engagements
  • Liaises and supports strategic relationship between targeted IDN, National and Regional payer executives and senior Amgen executives
  • Synthesizes customer insights to inform short- and long-term strategy and integrates customer-specific research needs into evidence generation plans
  • Participates in value-based strategy discussions with Market Access for payer & IDN engagements
  • Travel is required (~50%)

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Medical Science Liaison and/or Payer/PBM experience
