The Development Support Engineer I assists the electrical, mechanical, and software engineers during the product development process. The Development Support Engineer I acts as an interface between the Development Engineering, Manufacturing, and Repair departments. Roles performed by this position include building prototype product, and coordinating with the Test Engineering, Reliability Engineering, and Sustaining Engineering departments. This encompasses designing and supporting test equipment, troubleshooting failures, and recommending alterations and enhancements to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with hardware and software engineers in defining Acceptance Test, Product Verification Test, Manufacturing Test, and Environmental Stress Screening philosophies and architectures
- Design equipment needed to support testing. Hardware may consist of cables, custom electronics, PC interface adapters, standard instrumentation, and custom test fixtures
- Purchase, assemble or arrange assembly of test equipment
- Test and refine equipment design as necessary
- Document the system and individual pieces of equipment so that the setup may be replicated for factory use or sale to end customers
- Work with hardware and software engineers during Qualification and new product introduction to ensure installation and operation of test equipment
- Provide assistance to the Production and Repair departments in performing product failure analysis and similar evaluations in order to determine how to improve product reliability
- Represent the company at tradeshows and other related events with product demonstration designs, in support of the Sales and Marketing department
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
- 0-3 years of experience working in a similar role, or 2-5 years working as an engineering lab technician
- Familiar with all aspects of systems involving complex circuits, cables, power supplies, and mechanical components
- Working familiarity with embedded operating systems, networking technologies, and communication protocols
- Knowledge of design equipment utilized in engineering and production test
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, and related quality control standards
- Solid working knowledge of PCB fabrication and assembly processes
- Skilled in the use of test equipment (oscilloscopes, DVMs) and tools such as soldering equipment
- Proven track record in meeting project goals and objectives
Benefits
The starting pay range for this position is $58,000 to 77,000 per year however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
