The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Correctional Records Technician at the Washington State Penitentiary.
 
The Washington State Penitentiary is staffed 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.

The Department consists of the Office of the Secretary, Prisons Division, Community Corrections Division, Administrative Services Division, Health Services Division, Communications Department and Risk Management Department.
 
The Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) is comprised of 4 Close Custody Units, 3 Special Housing Units, 2 Intensive Management Units, 2 Medium Units, 2 Minimum Housing Units and a Health Services Building. In all, WSP houses approximately 2,000 Incarcerated Individuals and employs approximately 1,100 staff.

Examples of duties

As a custodian of Incarcerated Individuals records, the Correctional Records Technician (CRT) enters, audits and/or ensures the quality control of Incarcerated Individuals sentence structure information to include sentence revocations to be in compliance with state and federal laws, superior court sanctions and agency policies and processes. Verifies and maintains accurate Incarcerated Individuals criminal history record information provided by other criminal justice agencies. 

Duty:

Review and verify incarcerated individual sentence structure and criminal history information.

Tasks include:

  • Ensure the contents of incarcerated individual records are legal, accurate, and maintained in a secure setting
  • Review and verify accuracy of legal documents relating to convictions and sentencing. 
  • Establish and validate agency jurisdiction of incarcerated individuals.
  • Verify electronic database information against source documents and resolve problems that relate to the incarcerated individual sentencing. 
  • Verify identification of incarcerated individuals to law enforcement through pictures, fingerprints, and other physical data. 

Duty:

Prepare incarcerated individual release documents and complete required notifications. Maintain electronic and physical files

Tasks include:

  • Ensure the sentence structure and release is accurate, prepare all release documents, obtain release transportation arrangements, complete required notifications for release.
  • Utilize, update, and maintain databases and programs containing information relative to incarcerated individuals’ conviction, sentence, and violation history.
  • Registers eligible sex offenders and kidnapping individuals prior to release;
  • Enter information into the Department's electronic incarcerated individual database.
  • Archive incarcerated individual records according to established procedures. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of information protected by agency policy or federal or state laws. 
  • Process Upcoming Transfers to Partial Confinement Run Wants/Warrants, complete timely Law Enforcement and Victim Witness notifications, chrono, prepare Valuables Envelope for Transfer Desk CRT, Update ID.
