Position Summary

A Construction Inspector with VS Engineering will engage in all aspects of construction inspection and materials field sampling/testing for various types of construction projects, with a primary focus on transportation projects. Our Fort Wayne Office boasts a dynamic blend of seasoned professionals and emerging talent dedicated to serving Northeast Indiana and the broader Fort Wayne metropolitan area. Our team possesses specialized knowledge in public works projects for city, county, and DOT clients, and contributes valuable resources to projects throughout our company.

A Typical Day May Include

• Carry out daily inspections and observations on construction sites, ensuring tasks are completed safely and with professionalism. 
• Record inspection activities daily with precision, including onsite measurements and calculations of work done by contractors.
•  Conduct necessary field sampling and testing of project materials like asphalt, concrete, soil, and aggregate. 
• Keep consistent communication with construction contractors and client/owner representatives. 
• Follow supervisory directives in executing work assignments. 
• Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of experience in inspecting DOT transportation construction projects
• Familiarity and basic understanding of Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Standard Specifications, Standard Drawings, General Instruction to Field Employees, and general construction contract oversight procedures
• Successfully completed INDOT's Certified Technician Program for construction field personnel familiarity and understanding of quality transportation construction practices in embankment construction, drainage structure installation, subgrade construction, asphalt and concrete pavement construction, BMPs for stormwater management and environmental compliance, bridge foundation construction, bridge construction, and maintenance of traffic installations
• Proficient in use of SiteManager in daily work record and material entry
• Proficient in field measurement and quantitative verification of construction contractor's work qualified proficient in INDOT material field sampling and testing procedures for asphalt, concrete, soils, and aggregates
• Ability and willingness to apply supervisory instruction in field inspection tasks
• Ability and willingness to work extended hours, nightshift, and varying work schedules
