Job Profile Summary

A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs.  The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. A specialist level role that is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.  Typically manages large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager, coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level professionals, resolving difficult and often complex problems. These roles focus on providing high-quality patient care and promoting wellness. APCs work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions. In addition, this role focuses on conducting primary health services to women throughout the lifespan including gynecological care, family planning services, preconception care, prenatal, postpartum, childbirth, care of the newborn and treatment of partners. Including gynecological physical exams and assessments.

Job Overview 

The position performs and supervises services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and of the hospital. Works cooperatively within the department and other services to create a system of quality health care. The position is an advanced practice nurse who is responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of nurse midwifery care delivered to gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum, and newborn patients. The position performs physical exams, collects and documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules lab studies and professional consultations, and prescribes medication and interventions appropriately.​ 

 

Job Description 

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Master’s degree in Nursing. 

2. Basic Life Support Certification. 

3. One (1) year of experience. 

4. Controlled Substance Registration Certificate and DEA Registration Number. 

5. Maintains medical malpractice insurance. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Three (3) years of experience. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive listOther duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

 

1. Provides direct inpatient clinical services and management of mother and babies as defined in the hospital’s standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the certified nurse midwife. 

2. Performs inpatient rounding for antepartum and postpartum patients. 

3. Manages uncomplicated vaginal deliveries. 

4. Assists the physicians in cesarean sections as needed. 

5. Orders and interprets Non-Stress Tests (NST) appropriately. 

6. Provides occasional on-call coverage when agreed upon with medical director. 

7. Obtains patient health histories and complete physical examinations.
