SUMMARY

The Senior Direct Support Professional (This is an internal role only) plays a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position is responsible for fostering independence, promoting social engagement, and assisting individuals in achieving their personal goals. Additionally, the Senior DSP serves as a mentor and trainer for Direct Support Professionals, helping to ensure effective team coordination, proper scheduling, and adherence to individualized care plans and organizational policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Utilize appropriate methods for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  2. Assist with scheduling, assigning, and the support of Direct Support Professionals.
  3. Provides additional oversight and mentorship of the Direct Support Professionals.
  4. Assist the Lead Direct Support Professional in conducting daily team huddles to solicit feedback, answer questions, and communicate relevant information to Direct Support Professionals.
  5. Provide leadership team members with details and observations regarding teammate performance.
  6. Required to read service and habilitation plans for all individuals served in the Senior Direct Support Professional’s assigned group; to assure each individual is receiving proper care according to their plan(s).
  7. Facilitate and participate in daily scheduled activities.
  8. Collaborate with Case Managers as needed.
  9. Ensure proper documentation is completed, i.e., ID notes, communication logs, schedules, incident reports and payroll.
  10. Responsible for maintaining records, i.e., monthly calendar, daily activities, habilitation plans, scheduling, community outings, and reporting volunteer hours.
  11. Assist the Lead Direct Support Professional in maintaining compliance of ratios for individuals served to team members.
  12. Maintain a clean and safe working environment. 
  13. Anticipate safety needs for all individuals and team members and report any and all issues or concerns to department manager(s) as soon as possible.  
  14. Comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations and requirements, as well as company policies and procedures, i.e., Desert Regional Center (DRC), Adult Protective Services, etc.
  15. Participate in the development and implementation of the Person-Centered Plan (PCP).
  16. Attend the Person-Centered Plan (PCP) meetings as requested.
  17. Report suspected Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, Isolation, and Abandonment (ANEIA) immediately as mandated by state law.
