Job Description

The Department of Art, Communication, & Theater at Texas A&M University-Kingsville seek applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Art History for the start of the 2026 fall semester. Teaching duties include face-to-face and/or online art history courses at the undergraduate level and potential for developing seminar courses in the areas such as: Film, Print Media, Visual Studies; 19th and 20th Century Art, Contemporary European and Art of Latin America.  
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate art history courses in support of the B.A. and B.F.A. studio art programs, as well as the general education and dual enrollment curriculum of the university 

  • Provide timely feedback and instructor/student interaction in asynchronous online course format with occasions for online office hours and/or Q&A sessions. Regular weekly interaction is expected in online courses.  

  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to relate to undergraduate students, especially with non-art majors.  

  • Engage in the mentoring and encouragement of students in the classroom; integration of culturally responsible pedagogy. 

  • Ability to recruit and foster learning environments that support the needs of first generation and nontraditional students. 

  • Ideally, the candidate will be dynamic, collaborative with studio faculty, collegial, and willing to contribute to the mission of the Department, College, and University.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean.  '

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Art History from a regionally accredited institution or university. Applicant should be broadly trained art history generalist with the ability to teach beginning courses and specialized seminar courses.  

  • Have at least 18 graduate hours in the field in which the applicant will teach.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English 

Preferred Requirements

  • Scholarly expertise in Modern/Contemporary Art fields evidenced by published articles on these topics; an emerging record of professional activity as evidenced by conference presentations in art history or a related field. 

  • At least two academic years of university level teaching experience in art history at the undergraduate level. 

  • Experience teaching seminar courses in the areas of: Film, Print Media, Visual Studies; 19th and 20th Century Art, Contemporary European and Art of Latin America.
