Job Details

Join Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus where research and surgery are advanced, technology is leading-edge, patient care is world-class, and caregivers are family. Cleveland Clinic is recognized as one of the top hospitals in the nation. At Cleveland Clinic, you will work alongside passionate and dedicated caregivers, receive endless support and appreciation and build a rewarding career with one of the most respected healthcare organizations in the world.

This position is responsible for performing nerve conduction studies to evaluate the function of patients’ nerves and muscles. Duties include placing surface electrodes to deliver mild electrical impulses and measuring the resulting nerve and muscle responses. The role may also involve inserting fine needles to record and monitor communication between nerves and muscles, providing critical diagnostic information to support patient care. You will work closely with Neuro-Muscular Neurologists, Spine Physicians, and occasionally Registered Nurses (RNs) to support patient care. You will have the opportunity to collaborate regularly with fellow EMG Technicians to ensure accurate testing, support an efficient workflow, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care. While prior healthcare experience isn’t required, a strong understanding of anatomy, the ability to multi-task, and a passion for helping patients are essential.

This is a rewarding position that offers the unique opportunity to travel to different locations each week, with mileage reimbursement provided for travel between sites. Your primary assigned site will be Main Campus; however, travel to other locations will be required. These may include Hillcrest Hospital, Avon Hospital, and additional sites in Willoughby Hills, Strongsville, Middleburg Heights, Wadsworth, and Stow/Cuyahoga Falls.

A caregiver in this position will work a full-time schedule with flexible start times of 7:00am–4:00pm, 7:30am–4:30pm, or 8:00am–5:00pm. Occasional Saturday shifts (7:45am–12:00pm) may be available but are not required and are paid as overtime. Monthly schedules are finalized one month in advance and include assigned work locations.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform nerve conduction studies for patients.
  • Assist with instructing other caregivers, residents, physicians and technicians in proper laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain order within the laboratory.
  • Assist with research studies as assigned.
  • Analyze designs and execute additional nerve conduction studies based on initial findings based on initial results and knowledge of peripheral neuroanatomy.
  • Operate the nerve conduction instrumentation and ensure proper adjustments for accurate recording procedures.
  • Select nerves to be studied by reviewing requests and patient history.
  • Educate patients on EMG examinations.
  • Perform various administrative functions related to the laboratory.
  • Obtain patient’s EMG reports and transmit them to the physician on request.
  • Mail pieces to referring physicians.
  • Maintain files on all requests for reports.
  • Clean and restock EMG rooms and equipment.
  • Replenish lab supplies in examination rooms.
  • Use knowledge of Neurophysiology to assess the data's reliability and problem-solve to minimize error.
  • Relate procedures to the referring diagnosis.
