Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer in the Cloud+AI Microsoft Specialized Clouds team. This team is responsible for deploying and operating services, including the infrastructure that supports collaboration and mission critical workloads. The work directly contributes to Microsoft’s sovereign cloud capabilities, ensuring platforms can operate independently when required while remaining aligned with the core Azure ecosystem.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, build, and operate critical cloud services that are foundational to platform reliability, security, and scalability. You will own components end‑to‑end—from design and implementation through deployment and live‑site operations—while partnering with architects and program managers to influence technical direction. You will act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for scenarios and services, drive high engineering standards, and proactively identify and resolve reliability, performance, and operability gaps.This opportunity will allow you to (1) deepen your expertise in designing and operating distributed systems at global scale, (2) strengthen your engineering judgment by influencing architectural and platform decisions, and (3) grow as a technical leader through ownership, mentorship, and high‑impact problem solving.

Responsibilities
As a part of a growing team, your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
- Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
- Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
- Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 -
