Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Project Accountant who will be responsible for the financial administration of multiple moderately complex projects of varying sizes and groups of project managers. We are looking for someone who is a fast learner and takes ownership and pride in producing high-quality work. In this role, the selected candidate will review projects for accurate revenue recognition according to generally accepted accounting practices and provide project analysis and recommendation based on findings. This individual will be work closely with the operations team over the complete life cycle of a project, including the bid preparation phase. Reporting to Finance Lead, the project accountant will assist project team with project set up and closeout, monitor projects for contract compliance, monitor project performance and key indicator, ensure the financial impact of change orders are reflected correctly in APIC, and support monthly close activities. The position will be a remote role and can be based anywhere in the US.

Job Description Summary

  • Interface regularly with project manager and project delivery team.
  • Assist Project Manager with project setup and closeout, and monitor projects for contract compliance
  • Monitor project performance and key indicators: support PM as required in understanding project performance
  • Monitor & analyze revenue to ensure proper revenue recognition methods used; be able to explain key project metrics and lead indicators.
  • Assist Finance Lead in identifying, tracking, and reporting on projects in financial distress
  • Assist in tracking and elevating aged billed and unbilled receivables
  • Support Finance Lead in monthly close activities
  • Provide support to junior members of the team in addressing routine and/or technical issues
  • Administration of the project accounting system
  • Ensure internal project accounting policies & procedures are properly adhered to
  • Liaise with internal and external auditor and prepare documentation required
  • Perform ad-hoc assignments as and when required Support internal project manager in reviewing and monitoring project financial status
  • Works under limited supervision

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or a related field + 2 years of relevant project accounting experience, or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Detailed oriented with ability to prioritize work, navigate ambiguity, and meet quick turn-around deadlines with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical capabili
