Positional Summary

The Assistant Director, Employer Relations reports to the Director, Employer Relations and is responsible for employer development and engagement with a particular focus on a specific set of industries. The position also shares in the design and implementation of engagement and recruiting activities related to recruiting Duke talent. Collaborating with colleagues and providing direction and support to student-worker(s) assigned to the Employer Relations Team is expected.

 

Key Position Duties

Events and Recruiting - 30% of Effort

  • Manage the planning and implementation, and assessment of recruiting program, career fairs (virtual and in-person), and networking events. Serve as point of contact for employers during recruiting events. Partner with career community manager(s) to collaborate on employer/student events/programs and budget recommendations.

 

Employer Relations - 25% of Effort

  • Take personal responsibility for identifying and stewarding key relationships with employers. Provide leadership for the Career Center regarding employer-sponsored events and assess the value of consortia events and act as necessary. Provide direction for employers related to recruiting Duke undergraduate, graduate students, and recent alumni, and assist in planning and implementing events and workshops related to employer development and student programming. Engage in domestic travel for Career Center opportunity development and employer stewardship.

 

Technology - 20% of Effort

  • Utilize the Career Center’s career services platform (Handshake) to manage employer requests, event and interview requests, job postings, and data related to the Career Community. Assist colleagues in fully utilizing the system and ensure that programs use technology to maximum efficiency. Regularly evaluate recruiting system(s) and make recommendations for change as necessary. Use technical resources to generate leads for employer recruitment (e.g., Handshake). Provide direction for the on-going management of systems to ensure that data is up-to date and accurate.

 

Networks - 10% of Effort

  • Build constituent relationships across including colleagues in professional schools, faculty, and student groups.  Build and nurture relationships with alumni who can positively impact the talent pipeline from Duke to their or related organizations.

 

Systems and Data collection - 10% of Effort

  • Develop, implement, and manage employment processes, and measure progress towards goals.  Ensure that data is collected, prepared and presented to appropriate colleagues.

 

Professional involvement - 5% of Effort

  • Serve on Career Center and Duke committees in support of Career Center mission. Represent Duke at local and/or national conferences. Provide leadership to the professional community by developing and promoting new employer initiatives at Duke. Assess and evaluate peer initiatives and make recommendations for change consistent with the office mission. Continually keep up with employment trends and the work world.
