Program Description:
Beacon programs are school-based community centers serving children aged six and older, and adults. There are currently 91 Beacons located throughout the five boroughs of New York City operating in the afternoons and evenings, on weekends, and during school holidays and vacation periods, including the summer. Beacons provide Our goal is to give each participant, regardless of age, a positive and fun learning experience in a safe, friendly environment.
Principal Objective/Role Overview:
Team leaders work in Graham Windham’s Community Center programs. They supervise children during a variety of academic, recreational, cultural and youth development activities. They create a safe, wholesome environment and help produce well-rounded children who are equipped to handle long-term challenges.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead activities such as academic enrichment, small group tutoring, art projects, interactive literacy, math and stem activities.
- Complete interesting and innovative lesson plans and implement those plans accordingly.
- Create a safe learning environment for participants.
- Maintain accurate student attendance reports and portfolio evaluations.
- Attend staff meetings and/or staff development activities.
- Lead and supervise your group of students whilst on offsite trips.
- Empathize with program participants and plan appropriate interventions with staff and supervisors
- Participate in Graham Windham’s organizational activities when appropriate.
Qualifications
Position Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required, College Degree preferred.
- A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working with groups of children, young adults, is required.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
- Candidates with previous DOE PETS and DOH fingerprints clearance are highly preferred
Salary & Compensation:
- Base Salary or Hourly Rate: $21.36/hour
- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
