Cost Accounting Manager


LOCATION: Story City, IA


SUMMARY: Primary responsibilities include reviewing job costs, profitability reports, manufacturing reports, and inventory valuations that accurately reflect the results for the COE.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Inventory Valuation: Review the monthly valuation of Raw Materials, Work-in-Process      and Finished Goods. Follow up on variances.
  • Manufacturing Results: Review the monthly manufacturing reports. Follow up on      significant variances.
  • Cost Analysis: Update monthly product development costs. Prepare cost and      profitability analysis. Prepare and analyze various “what if” scenarios.
  • Analytical Review: Review production reports, job costs, and profitability reports to      improve processes and profitability. 
  • Assist with development and implementation of reporting systems for inventory and manufacturing.
  • Serve as backup to the Cost Accounting Specialist and other COE Cost Accounting      Managers
  • Prepare schedules for budgeting and the year-end audit. 
  • Assist with planning and coordination of cycle counts and the year-end physical      inventory.
  • Serve on various teams working on manufacturing issues. 
  • Work with manufacturing in tracking achievement of profit improvement plans.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

· Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from four-year college or university plus 5 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

· Previous manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.

· Previous job cost accounting experience preferred, but not required.


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proven problem solver with excellent analytical skills
  • Experience and comfort with a variety of computer systems and exporting/analyzing      data in Excel, including joining data from multiple sources.
  • Experience in operational accounting, manufacturing, and/or cost accounting 
  • Enjoy a fast-paced environment and are dedicated to driving and achieving results.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
