The Department of Emergency & Military Affairs (DEMA), led by The Adjutant General, provides emergency management and military capabilities to the citizens of Arizona and the nation. The Emergency Management Division consists of three sections—operations, preparedness, and financial administration. Each section works collaboratively across the agency and with external partners to manage emergency responses and reduce the impacts of disasters. Additionally, DEMA is the headquarters for the Arizona National Guard, the primary combat reserve of the United States military. The Arizona Army and Air National Guard provide military forces and equipment to accomplish community, state, and federal missions.

Job Summary:The Ordnance Handler Crew Chief is responsible for the supervision and leadership of a crew of Ordnance Handlers (OH's) performing tasks related to the safe and efficient shipping, receiving, storage, inventory, housekeeping, and related duties for Arms, Ammunition and Explosive (AA&E) commodities. AA&E normally consists of, but not limited to, Small Arms Ammunition, Pyrotechnics, Small Rockets, Assorted Hazardous Material items (referred to as Conv.Ops), Large Scale AA&E commodities such as Minuteman, Trident, Castor, etc. Rocket Motors (referred to as LRM Ops). This position also supervises and leads OH performing similar duties with Non-Hazardous Materials such as asset support stocks, equipment, and other customer related commodities.
The OH Crew Chief serves as a fully qualified and certified crew member in Conventional (Conv.) and/or Large Rocket Motor (LRM) Operations and performs work within the Ammunition Storage Area (ASA) which will place the individual within the Explosives Safety Quantity Distances (ESQD) Arc of a Potential Explosion Site (PES). Actively participates in promoting a continuous improvement workplace culture, through the use of teamwork, root cause problem solving, standard operating procedures, and review of performance metrics.
• Directs OH Crews in operational tasks, in compliance with Standing Operating Procedures or other similar task guidance procedures, for the safe and efficient execution of shipping, receiving, and warehousing operations relating to all customer commodities (AA&E and Non-AA&E). Ensure all tasks are conducted in accordance with DOD, federal, state and/or local Follow regulatory orders, guidance. explicit and Report implicit, any and as all commensurate non-compliance within issues relating current to Training, safety through Qualification proper and supervisory channels. Follow orders, explicit and implicit, as commensurate within their current Training, Qualification and Certification Level, as directed by Managers, Supervisors and/or Trainers, in order to accomplish departmental tasks, goals, and objectives.
• Directs OH Crews in the operation of assigned Material Handling Equipment (MHE), Weight Handling Equipment (WHE), Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) and other associated tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner, following all regulatory mandates. Perform Post Operation Inspections and file reports as applicable.
• Ensures OH Crews perform Prior to Use (PTU) and Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) on assigned MHE, WHE, CMV's, and other AA&E assorted tools and equipment in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Ensures all equipment is serviceable and safe to use in all operations. Ensure PTU/PMCS documentation is filed in accordance with departmental equipment maintenance procedures.
• Directs OH Crews in the performance of general housekeeping to ensure cleanliness, orderliness and user level maintenance of all associated departmental facilities and surrounding work areas is maintained.
• Directs OH Crews in the performance of specialized handling of AA&E such as; disassembly of arm/disarm and safe devices, nozzle removal, exudate cleanup, component installations/removals as specified by customer technical documents.
