The SGRE Blade Design department is instrumental in propelling the growth of the wind industry by designing the longest composite structures in the world. Our blades enable cost of energy optimization through technology innovation and systematic design practices. The department is composed of international multi-disciplinary experts in aerodynamics, structures, dynamics, and controls collaborating concurrently in an open, inspiring, and stimulating atmosphere in downtown Boulder, Colorado - an amazing place to work and live with the breathtaking backdrop of the Rocky Mountains and 300 days of sunshine. SGRE is driven by its engineers, who harness their curiosity and passion for innovation to create renewable solutions. As a Blade Design Structures Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in designing new products and optimizing the blade structural performance.
It is essential that you possess both the desire and the drive to evolve as a design engineer within our organization. Additionally, you should aim to progress into the role of a lead engineer, overseeing a team of 2-3 engineers and interfacing closely with other multidisciplinary leads on design projects. Consequently, possessing a customer-centric, collaborative mindset, along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, is paramount.
Relocation may be offered for this role should it be necessary.
Responsibilities
Performing conceptual and detailed design of composite structure for wind turbine blades
Implementing new technologies needed to enable longer, lighter, and more cost-efficient blades.
Integrating design for manufacturing and blade integrity considerations in blade design
Assessing design-driving limits and proposing ideas to improve the multi-disciplinary blade design.
Evaluating potential of new material and technology ideas to set direction for technology roadmaps.
Contributing to the development of design, analysis, optimization, and visualization tools for structural simulations
Collaborating with a diverse group of engineers in a global organization
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Master’s or Doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
Minimum relevant experience: Master’s + 4 years or Doctorate + 2 year
Experience with design and strength analysis of composite structures.
Proficiency using Finite Element software (ANSYS, ABAQUS, or similar)
Proficiency coding with MATLAB or similar
Strong interest and natural curiosity for wind turbines and composite structures
Self-motivation and a sense of urgency to drive and inspire
Ability to communicate effectively with peers, chief engineers, and management both orally and in written reports
10% of traveling is required with the position.
