KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepares students for success in college and life. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in The Bronx.  Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond – and in so doing, to prove what is possible for all students.  Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Through College, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9000 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 900.

Job Description

Position Overview

The Senior Director, Data is an essential leadership position on the KIPP NYC Academics Team responsible for the overall strategy and vision of KIPP NYC Data to provide comprehensive data analysis to academic and operational leaders. Under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer, and in collaboration with the other KIPP NYC Academics teams- the Teaching and Learning Support Team (TLS) and the Student Support Services Team (SSS), the Senior Director will drive the analysis and assessment of KIPP NYC efforts of continuous academic improvement as well as long term research and development.  In addition, the Senior Director will lead a robust Data team in the analysis of regional academic and operational data, the maintaining of regulatory compliance and data security, while ensuring reliable data for senior leadership and regional decision making. 

General Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Vision Setting

  • Develop and oversee the vision for regional data and assessments systems to drive organizational decisions that impact concrete student outcomes against ambitious goals
  • Identify critical areas of need, leverage current strengths, and continue to seek out innovation to continually improve, align and refine KIPP NYC K-16 Data Systems and Practices
  • Create necessary workstreams and programmatic systems shifts to actualize on KIPP NYC graduate aims.

Team Management

  • Manage the Data and Assessment team by developing capacity and building skills  as well as providing professional development opportunities
  • Oversee team goals and progress to design and implement regional tools to support academic and operational goals.

School Support and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with academic leadership to create and present analysis of academic and operational data to be used at regular Academic Progress Tracking (APT) meetings.
  • Collaborate with SST and school-level stakeholders to design and implement effective data practices, develop data fluency within the organization, and push stakeholders to rigorous examination of data to determine concrete high-impact next steps.

Data Systems Design and Implementation

  • Design and implement KIPP NYCs organizational data strategy in partnership with regional and school leadership. 
  • Maintain and enforce data security standards to protect student and employee privacy
  • Facilitate the design of new network-wide processes, programs, and model elements
  • Build organizational capacity for design, user experience research, and innovation through coaching, training, and modeling best practices

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education and/or Math education preferred
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in data analysis, educational research, or a related field
  • Including a minimum 4 years of team leadership experiment and collaboration on high-level strategy
  • Professional experience in quantitative and qualitative data management, analysis, interpretation, and presentation
  • Strong organization skills
  • Experience working in a school setting is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with SQL, Python, Tableau, Google BigQuery and other related technologies are preferred by not required
  • Experience planning and leading engaging and effective professional development for adults
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the organization 
  • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment with the handling of highly sensitive and confidential information
