Business Development Specialist - Contractor & Design Engineering Markets 

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for the sales, product approvals and proposal strategies to achieve product sales growth with transmission and substation EPC division of Quanta, Quanta ISG.  The Business Development Specialist will also be responsible for driving specifications and strengthening brand preference at Power Engineers, the leading transmission design firm in the US market.  The position will be targeted to the high voltage segment associated with transmission, substation, and renewable energy projects, i.e. greater than 35 kV, and includes achieving product approvals, influencing specifications, and achieving sales growth targets for this market segment.  This role will work closely with the existing HPS domestic sales team, business unit product management and engineering teams, customer service, Trans/Sub business development team and the Hubbell Packaging Solutions team for the purpose of growing sales and strengthening Hubbell brand preferences.

This position would involve promoting HPS transmission and substation product offerings and services to multiple operating divisions within Quanta Services, Inc. and multiple regional offices for Power Engineers. This role will require a high level of communication and coordination with the existing HPS sales team, market specialist team and packager solutions team.  This role will also be responsible for developing and enhancing a strategic relationship with Quanta ISG. 

This position is remote and would report to the Manager of Transmission & Substation Markets

A Day In The Life

  • Drive product approvals, brand preferences and sales at key Quanta & Power Engineers locations serving the transmission and substation markets.  The individual must always present themselves in a highly professional manner.
  • Track and manage promotional and sales efforts on key transmission and substation projects at various stages of development, i.e. early development, advanced development, and construction stages.
  • Actively engage in the development and strategy of winning project proposals for the material requirements on transmission and substation projects.
  • Update and maintain a database of strategic transmission and substation pipeline opportunities in Salesforce.  Responsibilities include identification of project opportunities, setup and communicate with the opportunity team, maintain and update the status of all transmission and substation project opportunities, upload all relevant project bid, project proposal, specifications, quotations, etc. into the project opportunities and record all project win/loss information on all key projects included in the Quanta ISG and Power Engineers pipeline.
  • Identify and participate in key industry events for the purpose of improving brand preferences and growing sales.  Identify opportunities for product marketing to participate on a technical level with presentations and technical papers on relevant topics.
  • Effectively and regularly communicate sales activities, opportunities and strategies to the HPS sales management organization, domestic sales team, packager solutions team and customer service on a day-to-day basis.
  • Work closely with internal shared services groups including the Pricing Group to provide service and pricing reviews and transparency; competitive price reviews; and overall market analysis. 

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Engineering / Business degree with relevant experience in the transmission and substation markets.  
  • Above average presentation and analytical skills, strong written and oral English skills. 
  • Ideal candidate has 5 years of sales or business development experience related to the electric utility market, with direct experience calling on end-users, transmission & substation developers, design engineering firms, and contractors.
  • The individual needs to be able to establish priorities, effectively communicate both external and internal, capable of managing sales and promotional activity across a broad geography within the domestic US transmission & substation market and be effective working with domestic sales management/personnel, BU management/personnel, customer service, pricing group management/personnel, and our sales channel partners on a day-to day basis.
  • Must be a highly motivated sales professional capable of taking initiatives to establish strong working relationships with both new and existing contacts. 
  • The ability to communicate and interface with upper levels of management at key accounts.
  • The position requires knowledge in the domestic US transmission & substation market. 
  • Must be willing and able to travel 50% - 60% within the US Marketplace
