Registered Nurse II - ART Holding Nerve Block RN

Job Description Summary

The nerve block RN will operate within the nursing scope of practice to provide high quality care for a broad patient population. The nerve block RN will work to ensure the patient and family members understand the nerve block procedure & plan of care; assist in procedure room preparation; participate in time-outs to verify correct block site; maintain sterile technique; confirm all medications drawn up by the anesthesiologist for the block are labeled; administer conscious sedation and other drugs as needed; monitor patient patterns & vital signs throughout the procedure; oversee the safety & comfort of patients before during and after procedures. The nerve block RN is expected to be certified in moderate sedation and may sedate the patient at the direction of the anesthesiologist. The nerve block RN will be expected to apply working knowledge and experience in high volume procedural environment. The nerve block RN will draw up and administer medications for both sedation and for the actual nerve block.

Under general supervision, the Nerve Block Registered Nurse provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to patients and families at the competent level utilizing the principles and practice of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. Periodic weekend and off hour call will be required.

Shift: 36hr/week - 3-12 hr shifts

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:  Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
