Provides support in the area of Mechanical Engineering, specifically related to raw and pasteurized product processing systems. This includes all storage, handling, and transfer systems. Directly responsible for providing low level technical support, coordination, installation and start-up support of small process engineering related projects assigned to the engineering workshop. These projects may utilize in-house or sub-contract resources.
- Provides technical support to the plants in the basic design, development, and implementation of process systems, including CIP and HTST. Analyzes basic technical problems and derives inventive solutions to reduce cost and improve operations, system performance, and repeatability.
- Supports the continuous improvement of process systems, driving to enhance system effectiveness and reduce cost. Works to develop innovative solutions to support NPD.
- Serves as team member on capital projects, acting as a technical lead for process design. Leads and coordinates related construction activities, startup, operation and training. Supports Engineering Workshop projects, including process improvements and system replacements, by providing technical and administrative support and guidance to in-house and sub-contract fabrication personnel. Works to develop technical capabilities and work quality in sub-contract labor.
- Works with Processing/CIP departments and other plant personnel to develop basic process systems improvements, including operating efficiencies and other cost savings measures.
- Prepares and manages technical and functional documentation including engineering drawings (P & ID's), Bill of Materials, specifications, and guidelines.
- Prepares a detailed scope/bid packages and cost estimates for both the mechanical installation including all supporting documentation.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned by your supervisor, as dictated by business necessity.
- BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related 3+ years of applicable experience.
- No minimum experience with related degree. Minimum of 3 years of process related experience in lieu of related degree.
- Basic knowledge of dairy processes including HTST and CIP operation, passivation, vat pasteurization, liquification, membrane filtration, milk condensing, falling film heat exchangers, and separators. Basic knowledge of related codes and standards including PMO codes and 3A Dairy standards.
- Skilled in the development of basic technical documentation including P&ID drawings, technical specifications, and departmental guidelines as required. Effectively handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong inter-personal skills with an emphasis on customer service, negotiation, and the ability to deal with conflict and ambiguity effectively. Must be proficient with computer software, including Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, and Oracle EAM.
- Strong communicator, both verbal and written. Must be organized, manage time well and be a self-starter.
- Adaptable to change and changing priorities. Must have the ability to independently and effectively lead meetings.
