Position Summary: 

The Assistant Head of Specialized Services ,as part of the school leadership team, is responsible for leading and  monitoring and successful implementation of special education services, processes and procedures  within the school setting. The Assistant Head of Specialized Services, for each school, ensures that the special education process and program maintains a high quality and is aligned with all local, state and federal regulations and requirements. The Assistant Head of Specialized Services ensures that the delivery of services within the school are appropriate, individualized and in accordance with each student's IEP, including specially designed instruction, related services, and standardized testing.  Additionally, the Assistant Head of Specialized Services will provide coaching  and management for special education teachers in the building.

This is a 12 month position with shared accountability and co supervision with the Head of School and the Director of Special Education.

Core Responsibilities: 

• Management and Leadership 

• Manage school-based Special Education teachers and staff

• Provide instructional coaching to teachers (BCMS/BCHS)

• Serve as a member of the school leadership team responsible for  decisions made at the school level involving special education, students with disabilities, student consequences, and Child Findings

• Initiate, plan and execute training to equip Gen Ed and SpEd staff in areas of need in regards to students with disabilities

• Develop relationships with students and actively collaborate with staff members to provide optimum services of support for Special Education students.

• Monitoring special education related service providers in your building and ensure provision of services

• Manage the Special Education Process and Files for Compliance 

  • Maintain special education hard files

  • Maintain compliance on each file.

  • Ensure timelines are in compliance

  • Ensure legally sound IEP’s

  • Maintain building integrity if IDEA 

  • Manage all 504 plans, safety plan and PBSP  for students with disabilities

  • Ensure Child Find in the school as part of the MTSS team

  • Set up and conduct parent meetings when special education testing requests are made

  • Ensure all completion of special education data  entry expectations in the
