Our long history supporting Low Earth Orbit (LEO) on the International Space Station, and now Commercial LEO, lays the groundwork for future missions to the Moon through our work on Orion, Gateway, and the Space Launch System. 

Responsibilities

The Software Engineer, Commercial Spaceflight will:

  • Apply engineering principles and techniques to requirements validation, product development, product integration, requirements verification, system validation, and hardware/software product deployment
  • Support the development of Spacecraft software design
  • Investigate process improvement initiatives that promote the progression of SE&I expertise within a more digitized SE&I environment
  • Establish working relationships with customer counterparts, requirement owners, and commercial teammates’ key personnel to promote SE&I functions
  • Provide technical systems knowledge during major project milestones and project reviews
  • Integrate software solutions in a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

 

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, from an accredited engineering school, plus five (5) years of related engineering experience.

 - OR -

  • BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, from an accredited engineering school, plus ten (10) years of related engineering experience.

- OR -

  • BS degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline, from an accredited engineering school, plus fifteen (15) years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience with Engineering analysis
  • Software test experience
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices associated with the definition, design, development, verification, implementation, testing, integration, and validation of complex systems
  • Experience working on cross-discipline engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)

Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Support the design and development of Command and Data Handling hardware and software
  • Experience with object-oriented software programming
  • Knowledge of Space Exploration programs, the International Space Station and its visiting vehicles
  • Experience with software architecture
  • Experience with root-cause analysis
  • Working experience with DOORS requirements management software or other requirements management software
  • Experience working with orbit and attitude navigation
  • Experience with flight avionics hardware & interfaces
  • Experience with software architecture
  • Experience with Python, C++
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Experience with Data Analytics and Business Intelligence
  • Experience with firmware development
