Laboratory Science Professional (Entry) – Cardiology Research
University of ColoradoAbout the role
Description
University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus
Department: Medicine – Division of Cardiology
Job Title: Laboratory Science Professional (Entry) – Cardiology Research
Position #: 00846378– Requisition #: 39420
Job Summary:
The Bell lab at the University of Colorado Anschutz is a highly collaborative and supportive research group focused on the field of Cardio-Oncology. This Professional Research Assistant will investigate the molecular basis of systems interaction and crosstalk between cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Mounting epidemiologic evidence demonstrates that patients with cancer have substantially increased morbidity and mortality from CVD, and those with CVD also have a concurrent increased risk of cancer. We focus on understanding the bidirectional interactions and mechanistic similarities between CVD and cancer. We investigate this relationship using multiple techniques including inducible lineage-tracing murine models, single cell RNA and ATAC sequencing, cell culture assays, and human genetics, with all our hypotheses being further generated and refined by experience in the Anschutz Cancer Center’s Cardio-Oncology Clinic. Discovery of these mechanisms and interactions allows for improved disease screening and stratification of high-risk patient populations, the development of new therapies for cancer-mediated CVD, and improved cardiac care for cancer patients and survivors.
Key Responsibilities:
Cell culture and molecular biology assays that fit into the overall goal of the laboratory.
Assistance with mouse experiments and mouse colony maintenance related to the goals of the laboratory.
Basic laboratory management, organization, and ordering of materials.
Teamwork and effective communication with scientists and students in the Bell lab and in other collaborating research groups.
Work Location:
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO.
Why Join Us:
Our group is within the Division of Cardiology, a strong community of students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants that work and interact with one another. The Bell lab offers training in critical bench-based and computational biomedical research tools, use of mice in basic research and preclinical study, and exposure to translational science and medicine. This is an ideal position for someone interested in a career in science or medicine needing additional experience in the fields. We offer authorship in research publications, and support in achieving future long term career goals.
