POSITION SUMMARY:

Delta College Archives provides a paid internship to engage graduate students looking to develop professional skills in archival work including evaluation, arrangement, description, conservation, and digitization.

The archives intern will provide arrangement and description of archival materials to help make them available for use by Delta College faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community. Delta College is committed to providing students pursuing a graduate degree with a concentration in Archives an excellent opportunity to participate in a comprehensive internship program at Delta College, one of America’s leading Community Colleges. Interns will work under the guidance and supervision of the Librarian/Archivist at Delta College.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
  • Arrangement, description and rehousing of archival material
  • Development of finding aids and other access tools
  • Digitization, preservation, and basic conservation
  • Reference and Research Services

  • Currently enrolled in or recently (within one year) graduated from a master’s degree program in library and information science with a concentration or strong focus on archives. Interns are not required to have archives experience beyond their coursework.
  • Pursuit of a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
  • Should have an understanding of archival description standards and practices
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • The ability to work independently; ability to take direction and ask questions
  • The ability to work in a digital environment; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
