JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking Penn State students to fill the position of Climbing Wall Monitor. A Climbing Wall Monitor serves as the point of contact for climbers attending the Climbing Wall and bouldering area. The Wall Monitors will staff the climbing wall front desk area (check-ins, certification checks, equipment management); will provide necessary equipment (shoes, harnesses, belay devices) and information on proper fit and use; may have opportunities for teaching experience with new climbers. Wall Monitors must uphold policies and procedures of the indoor climbing facility, monitor and supervise climbers and conduct daily opening and closing duties. Must attend mandatory staff meetings and staff technical skills clinics.
Individuals should possess a desire to learn new skills, develop leadership abilities, and interact with others in dynamic and challenging settings. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends as necessary. Previous climbing and related experience is preferred. Individuals should possess a desire to learn new skills, develop leadership abilities, and interact with others in dynamic and challenging settings. First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred, although not required.
Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200,000 sf Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.
