Assistant Director for Student Engagement - Campus Ministry

The Assistant Director for Student Engagement advances this mission through the management of diverse student engagement and outreach efforts, and support for the effective administration of Catholic Life. The Assistant Director assists the chaplaincy in engaging diverse Catholic identities, with particular focus on the Latine Catholic student community, and strengthening a culture of inclusion and belonging across chaplaincy activities. Working with other members of the Catholic Ministry team, the Assistant Director promotes student leadership and community growth, and coordinates student faith groups. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

• Develop, coordinate, and collaborate on formation opportunities, including teachings of the Catholic Church, faith formation in Catholic values, Catholic Social Teaching, and the Ignatian tradition.

• Oversee programming and the discussion on current issues in faith and culture, the Church, the spiritual, and intellectual life.

• In collaboration with campus partners, provide, coordinate, and promote service opportunities for students.

• Coordinate and continue to grow the small group faith sharing communities on the main campus (Catholic Faith Communities – CFCs).

• Work with other staff members to promote faith sharing and recruit students and leaders, providing training opportunities and experiences for student CFC leader.

• Collaborate with the Director of Liturgy and Director of Music on the monthly Mass in Spanish, recruiting student leaders from the Spanish speaking community.

• Work with student leaders to develop social activities and special events for Latinx community on campus.

• Attend Campus Ministry, Catholic Chaplaincy and Ecumenical staff meetings, collaborating with the Campus Ministry staff for various programming, including but not limited to interfaith programming.

• Support University Liturgical celebrations (NSO, MHS, Jesuit Heritage, Advent, Parent’s/Senior Weekends, As Wednesday, Holy Week, Baccalaureate).

• Participate in University committees as needed, performing other duties as assigned.

Work Interactions

The Assistant Director for Student Engagement serves as a member of the Catholic Ministry staff, supervises a team of student workers, and reports to the Director for Catholic Life. In addition to working with the Catholic chaplains and staff, the Assistant Director collaborates with members of the Ecumenical and Interfaith staff of Campus Ministry, interacts with members of university staff, alumni and community members who attend Catholic services, and outside vendors for supplies and events.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in theology or related field; Master’s preferred

• At least 2 years of administrative, event-coordination, or programmatic work experience, preferably working with young adults in an academic setting

• Basic computer applications skills in email and Microsoft Office

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Highest preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual (Spanish and English) and have knowledge of/or experience working with those in the Latine community and culture

• Thorough knowledge and deep understanding of the Roman Catholic Church with a strong appreciation for the growing diversity of the Catholic Church and a desire to build inclusive communities, especially among Latine students

• Excellent organizational and communication skills and be a practicing Roman Catholic capable of navigating religiously and culturally diverse spaces
