Job Description
Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to support the delivery of a large-scale, multi-phase advanced manufacturing construction program in North Phoenix, Arizona. This role offers the opportunity to work on highly complex facilities, utility infrastructure, process systems, and mission-critical mechanical scopes as part of one of the largest construction programs currently underway in the United States.
The successful candidate will lead estimating efforts across mechanical packages while partnering closely with clients, designers, contractors, and project teams to provide accurate cost planning, estimate validation, and cost management support throughout the project lifecycle.
To be successful in this role, you must be self-motivated, client-focused, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced construction environment. Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction-phase cost estimates for mechanical construction scopes.
- Develop and maintain mechanical cost plans, budgets, estimate updates, and forecasting models throughout project delivery.
- Review drawings, specifications, BIM models, and design documentation to quantify and estimate mechanical systems.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs for HVAC systems, process piping, utility infrastructure, process cooling water systems, and related mechanical equipment.
- Partner with engineering, design, procurement, and construction teams to evaluate design changes and cost impacts.
- Review and validate contractor and subcontractor estimates, pricing proposals, and bid submissions.
- Lead estimate reconciliation meetings and support alignment between project stakeholders.
- Evaluate and negotiate change orders while maintaining accurate change management documentation.
- Support cost management activities, including cost reporting, forecasting, contingency tracking, and budget monitoring.
- Develop benchmark data, unit rates, productivity assumptions, and historical cost databases to support estimating accuracy.
- Monitor labor markets, material pricing trends, and supply chain risks that may impact project costs.
- Provide value engineering support and recommend cost-effective design and construction solutions.
- Prepare estimate narratives, executive summaries, and client-facing presentations.
- Support procurement activities by reviewing bid packages and evaluating commercial proposals.
- Collaborate with project controls and cost management teams to maintain cost certainty throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentor junior estimators and contribute to best practices across the estimating function.
- SOX control responsibilities may form part of this role and must be adhered to where applicable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- 7+ years of mechanical estimating, quantity surveying, cost management, or commercial management experience within the construction industry.
- Experience supporting large-scale industrial, manufacturing, advanced technology, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data center, or other complex construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems, including HVAC, chilled water, process piping, utility infrastructure, mechanical equipment, and related systems.
- Demonstrated experience preparing estimates, quantity takeoffs, cost plans, change order evaluations, forecasting, and cost analysis throughout the project lifecycle.
