About the role

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).  Our MISSION is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site’s Cold War legacy.  Our VISION is to be the user site of choice for large-scale, high-hazard, national security experimentation, with premier facilities and capabilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air. Facility & Testbed Engineering (F&TE) provides technical support to the nuclear and high hazard facilities using qualified cognizant system engineers to reliability and operability of their assigned systems that support the Stockpile Experimentation and Operations (SEO) directorate mission.  F&TE manages the Nuclear Material Management (NMM) Program, which is responsible for nuclear material lifecycle management at the NNSS.  The SEO Procedures and Records Group provides technical writing expertise for directives and procedures as well as records management for the nuclear and high hazard facilities and SEO processes. The F&TE Director is responsible for the execution of these objectives.

MSTS is seeking a F&TE Deputy Director. The Deputy Director will report to and assist the F&TE Director.  The Deputy Director will provide management and leadership to the various Facility Engineering management teams in the SEO nuclear and high hazard facilities. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts for the Director, assuming all roles and responsibilities, during their absence.
  • Acts on behalf of the Director at meetings.
  • Creates a culture of safety and security.
  • Assists the Director with managing the Facility Engineering Managers within their applicable Safety and Authorization Basis.
  • Assist the Director with providing clear and concise communication regarding facility events and work status
  • Take immediate action to correct reported or observed unacceptable environment, safety, health, and quality conditions.
  • Interacts with all levels of management, both within and outside the organization.
  • Leads briefings and technical meetings for internal representatives.
  • Provide input and recommendations for outstanding technical issues.
  • Creates an environment where employees feel safe to raise issues, empowered to address issues, and supported to resolve issues.
  • Mentor early career engineers. 
  • Perform assignments as directed by SEO Management.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 17 years of related and progressively responsible experience.

  • Work location is at the NNSS, (approximately 65 miles northeast of Las Vegas, NV).
  • The typical work schedule is four, 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday (subject ot change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
