We are looking for a passionate Director of Philanthropic Engagement who will work to secure financial support for BBYO communities. This job combines relationship-building, strategic planning, and community engagement.
As the Director of Philanthropic Engagement, you will develop and execute strategies to engage alumni, parents, and community members in supporting and advocating for BBYO. You will fundraise, develop volunteer leaders, and create strategic partnerships in their communities. This person will be part of a cross-country development team that is responsible for engaging external stakeholders in BBYO’s work in creative and innovative ways.
We’re looking for someone who excels in influence, storytelling, and communicating impact. This person will have a strong ability to develop relationships and collaborate with colleagues across departments. This person will have experience coordinating and prioritizing multiple projects within a deadline-driven environment, while remaining flexible to manage the unexpected. The Director of Philanthropic Engagement is excited about gathering and sharing data to tell a powerful and persuasive narrative to funders and philanthropic partners.
Shaping the Future for Teens and Yourself:
As a Director of Philanthropic Engagement, you will…
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies that include prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective and current donors
- Set specific metrics around increased giving, expanding the pipeline, and securing new and increased gifts in the $1,800+ range, meeting the department fundraising goals
- Engage prospective donors with specific interests and/or expertise in areas that align with BBYO initiatives or strategic priorities
- Identify and solicit endowment and legacy prospects
- Strategize with, motivate, and support the local adult lay leadership FAN committees in the implementation of fundraising efforts
- Plan fundraising and stewardship events
- Manage grants and relationships with local foundations and Federations, as necessary
- Work closely with program professionals to gain knowledge of the ongoing activity of the program
- Work closely with the Marketing & Communications Departments to implement on- and offline marketing initiatives to support community building efforts
- Increase visibility of BBYO’s brand
- Build strategic funding alliances to elevate the Jewish teen agenda and BBYO’s presence
Essential Skills for Making a Lasting Impact:
- 3+ years of experience in major gifts development for a non-profit organization or political campaign
- Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree welcome
- Very motivated, creative, and willing to take risks, entrepreneurial in spirit
- Strong listening skills, advanced public speaking skills, ability to work with different constituents and to be flexible is required
- Ability to hold oneself accountable and work without regular face-to-face supervision
- Prior success developing and implementing fundraising strategies, including event planning experience
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of the Jewish community and familiarity with Jewish nonprofit organizations preferred
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Travel Requirement: 25% +; including Staff Conference, BBYO International Convention and community fundraising meetings. Open to staffing summer programs should they be interested, not required.
- Capacity to take initiative and lead projects from beginning to end, including working with vendors
- Ability to be a team player in a fast-paced environment
