Overview
The Project Manager will manage cradle-to-grave project support, including but not limited to developing life-of-project scope, schedule, and budget estimates; project imitations; project resource procurement and management; frequent status reporting; and project closeout upon completion.
The Project Manager will support projects funded by the National Science Foundation’s Office of Polar Programs as part of the Battelle Arctic Research Operations Team (battellearcticgateway.org).
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Managing logistical support services for research projects primarily working in Utqiaġvik, Alaska or other rural Alaska Indigenous Communities.
- Preparing estimates of scope, schedule, and budget for research grant proposals.
- Tracking project resource usage and managing resource allocations to adhere to project budget requirements.
- Drafting statements of work and submitting requests for proposals for large procurements.
- Monitoring project performance using Earned Value techniques.
- Engaging directly with clients and other project stakeholders to provide frequent project performance updates.
- Using multiple different budget and resource tracking software programs.
- Preparing and submitting written reports or giving oral presentations on project performance.
- Periodic deployment to Utqiaġvik, Alaska to support NSF researchers is required.
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:
- Billing and invoicing experience
- Advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- To receive and respond to instructions/assignments, must be able to read, write and speak English
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Qualifications
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
- 5-years experience Arctic project and remote logistics management
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 15 to 25 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
Occasional field work and deployment to remote locations may be required.
