WHAT YOU’LL DO
Teach for America is increasing our investment in our student outcomes strategy that combines multiple approaches to understand how our students are performing and use student data for program improvement. We are looking for a seasoned and dynamic individual to support this work through the collection of student data from our district and school partners. The Director, Data Analytics is a key role focused on enhancing the educational success of students through strategic data sharing partnerships with schools and districts. This position is responsible for collecting local education agency (LEA) and/or state education agency (SEA) academic outcomes data to monitor student learning (ex: classroom rosters, interim assessments, state assessments). The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in student data management, while excelling at building relationships and managing multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Managing data sharing relationships with Local Education Agency (LEA) and State Education Agency (SEA) staff. (25%)
Securing and managing access to academic data from LEAs and SEAs to monitor student learning outcomes. (20%)
Cleaning and validating data from LEAs and SEAs for loading into TFA’s storage and reporting platforms. (30%)
Analyzing and interpreting student survey and assessment data to extract key insights. (15%)
Summarizing data findings to inform the programs and support continuous performance monitoring.
Supporting local teams with reporting for grants and funding.
Ensuring the collection, storage, and use of data adheres to organizational standards and policies, including student data privacy standards. (10%)
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the Director, Data Analytics will spend time:
Engaging with state and district leaders to gather student assessment data
Collecting, cleaning, organizing, analyzing and visualizing data for internal and external use
Working directly with program staff, to interpret data and build shared fluency and action plans for improvement
Participating in professional learning communities to share best practices across regions
Codifying work, best practices in ways that are accessible to others
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
3-5 years of work experience, with 2 years working with LEAs or SEAs in assessments, student data systems, or data sharing agreements
Advanced degree and/or certification with data or analytical focus
Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python, SAS, Power BI)
Proven project management abilities, including setting priorities and milestones
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively manage across teams and establish positive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including school district and state education staff
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills which translate to broad audiences of education stakeholders
Experience leading professional learning on data interpretation and fluency towards action plans for improvement
BONUS (preferred qualifications)
At least 3 years working experience cleaning and analyzing large, complex student data sets
WORK DEMANDS
Working with colleagues who are based all over the country – using remote technologies
Ability to travel to in-person meetings in various U.S. cities up to 1-2 times/quarter
