Position Overview
Western Illinois Correctional Center is looking for a professional Corrections Maintenance Craftsman. The ideal candidate will be able to perform preventative maintenance and repair of institutional buildings, appliances, equipment, machinery, and vehicles associated with the facility. Additionally, the person selected for this position will instruct and train individuals in custody assigned to perform building maintenance duties. Essential Functions
- Performs preventative maintenance and repair of institutional buildings, appliances, equipment, furniture, machinery, and vehicles.
- Directs and instructs assigned individuals in custody workers to the maintenance in the methods, techniques, and tools of the trade.
- Maintains the safety and security of the institution as related to performance of assigned duties.
- Maintains inventory of tools.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one of the maintenance or automotive repair trades.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least six (6) years of experience in the utilization of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the building maintenance trade.
- Prefers at least six (6) years of experience in planning work assignments to be able to lead individual in custody workers by example and instruction.
