Anticipated Hiring Range

$6,361 - $7,023 Per Month ($76,332 - $84,276 Annually)

Position Summary

The Office of Strategic Marketing & Communications is responsible for advancing the awareness, understanding and support of the University through media relations, publications, social media, marketing, advertising, promotions, special events and other communications.

The Media Relations Specialist partners with the Director of Communications and Executive Editor to develop and maintain strategies that will raise the university's stature through media relations and content development. The incumbent envisions and implements programs to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders with the goal of obtaining media placements. Stakeholders include the President, President's Cabinet, deans, faculty, donors and newsroom executives and reporters on the local, national and international levels. The incumbent develops and implements strategies to cultivate relationships with key stakeholders with the goal of creating and cross-promoting news content on all University platforms. He/She also assists with development of an emergency and crisis communications protocol based on best practices and in accordance with federal guidelines. This position works directly with the Emergency Operations Committee to implement protocol.

Position Information

Lead Announcements for Major University Milestones
  • Lead development and implementation of communications plans for major University milestone announcements such as but not limited to: donations to the University, opening of new buildings, major partnerships with external organizations and more
  • Collaborate across varying levels of the University including senior leaders to advise on messaging, talking points and announcement strategies. Key partners include President’s Office, Cabinet-level administrators, deans and faculty
  • Serve as main Public Relations point-of-contact for major announcements involving external partners. Duties include strategizing, brainstorming, managing expectations, attending/leading meetings, identifying goals and objectives, developing messaging and more
  • Coordinate and delegate tasks to Strategic Marketing & Communications department and other campus colleagues when developing and executing communications plans for announcements
  • Write press releases related to major University milestones
  • Measure and report success of announcements
