Summary

The Apprenticeship Program Manager is responsible for the development, accreditation, implementation, and oversight of the dealership’s technician accredited apprentice programs. This role ensures high-quality training and mentorship of apprentice technicians, tracks their progress, and fosters a successful transition to full-time technicians. In addition, this role plays a critical part in workforce development by building relationships with local high schools and vocational programs to identify and recruit future talent into the apprenticeship pipeline.

Essential Functions, Program Oversight and Management:

  • Develop and deliver accredited apprenticeship programs.
  • Oversee the performance of new and existing apprentice programs.
  • Ensure state college requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal apprenticeship requirements.
  • Provide compliance reports to state and federal agencies.
  • Manages current Think BIG, CPCC, and in-house Apprenticeship programs.
  • Think Big Advisory Committee Member (attends spring and fall meetings)
  • Works directly with recruiters to support the recruitment efforts
  • Participates in Technician interviews and provides feedback
  • High schools, VoTech schools, and college programs
  • Track apprentice’s performance and progress through regular (weekly/monthly) evaluations, check-ins, and feedback.
  • Research and apply for available state and federal grants that are applicable to new and existing apprenticeship programs.
  • Coordinate training schedules with internal departments and external educational institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to apprentice technicians, providing guidance and support throughout the program.
  • Partner with senior technicians and service managers to assign appropriate job tasks and learning opportunities.
  • Monitor work quality and adherence to Caterpillar standards.
  • Facilitate communication between apprentices, mentors, and supervisors to resolve challenges and promote development.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local high schools, vocational programs, and technical colleges.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and promotional materials to attract potential apprentices in partnership with other departments.
  • In partnership with Talent Acquisition, organize and participate in career fairs, school visits, open houses, and dealership tours.
  • Promote the Caterpillar brand and technician career path to students, educators, and parents.
  • Gather feedback from apprentices, mentors, and service departments to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance training, retention, and overall success.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, workforce development strategies, and Caterpillar training updates.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred; or 5-7 years of equivalent experience specializing in technical background and Training/Organizational Development.
