Summary
The DSV Road Transport Manager, Warehouse role is responsible for overseeing daily cross-dock operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of freight from inbound to outbound transportation with minimal dwell time. This position manages dock staffing, productivity, safety, and cost control while partnering closely with transportation and operations teams to meet service commitments. The role drives operational efficiency, service reliability, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Schedule and manage warehouse personnel to ensure adequate staffing for inbound and outbound dock activity across all shifts.
  • Direct daily warehouse operations, including unloading, sorting, staging, re-handling, and outbound loading of freight.
  • Ensure freight is processed accurately and moved through the facility in accordance with service-level and dwell-time targets.
  • Monitor labor utilization and productivity; generate and analyze reports to manage labor hours, throughput, and performance against budget.
  • Use operational and financial data to control costs, improve dock efficiency, and optimize freight flow.
  • Drive profitable growth by improving dock velocity, reducing handling errors, minimizing re-work, and improving service reliability.
  • Oversee key operational metrics such as damage rates, miss-loads, late departures, freight exceptions, and dock congestion.
  • Coordinate closely with transportation, dispatch, linehaul, and customer service teams to ensure seamless freight movement.
  • Maintain dock equipment through preventive maintenance and timely repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Implement and enforce safety programs in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe dock environment.
  • Lead, coach, and develop warehouse employees, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
  • Establish and monitor operational KPIs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Apply data-driven and root-cause analysis approaches to improve processes and operational outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and organizational goals.


Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, warehouse, or terminal operations, with supervisory or managerial experience preferred.
  • Prior experience managing high-volume, time-sensitive warehouse operations strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a multi-shift operational environment.


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and people-management skills with the ability to motivate and hold teams accountable.
  • Solid understanding of cross-dock, warehouse, and transportation operations.
  • Results-driven with strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); experience with warehouse or transportation management systems preferred.
  • Strong focus on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.


Physical Demands
This role requires frequent presence on the dock floor and involves regular standing and walking. Occasional lifting, bending, reaching, stooping, or climbing may be required. The employee regularly uses hands to operate equipment, computers, and communication devices. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision. Work hours may vary based on operational needs and may include nights, weekends, or staggered shifts.
