About the role

Description

Bollinger Motors is looking for a full-time Controls Director who reports to the Chief Product Officer and will work closely with counterparts for other groups (mechanical, electrical, testing, etc.). This is an in-person role at the company’s Oak Park, MI headquarters and will require occasional travel.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the software/controls team and be accountable for the team’s performance.
  • Responsible for defining complete control systems architecture including vehicle network strategy, diagnostics, and software. This includes defining vehicle and sub-system requirements relative to control strategies as well as defining how to respond to vehicle detected faults. 
  • Oversee the design and build of vehicle controls software, focused primarily on systems integration and tuning.
  • Ensure the proper application of technology and engineering resources to meet product development and/or customer requirements.
  • Design and test vehicle controls algorithms, focused on energy efficiency.
  • Define, implement, and validate all relevant on-vehicle communication interfaces.
  • Implement and validate communication interfaces between battery and off-vehicle equipment.
  • Manage telematics and data management for internal and external usage. Define and execute an effective Over-the-Air (OTA) process/procedure/protocol to allow for remote updates of the vehicle’s key control modules.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle controls issues throughout the duration of testing and production. Technically support engineering, test,     and marketing vehicles to assure the vehicle fleet is being utilized efficiently and maintain the latest versions of software on those vehicles to not disrupt their intended usage.
  • Plan and develop new projects and initiatives while identifying emerging opportunities.
  • Support the growth of the controls team through selection of talent, tools, and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or computer science engineering 
  • Minimum of 10 years of vehicle controls system development & design, electrical systems validation (hardware/software) and launch experience.
  • 10 plus years of experience in electric vehicle systems/architecture is desired.
  • Must be familiar with open and closed loop control systems for sensors, actuators, body controller, ECUs, etc. 
  • Broad experience with a wide range of automotive electrical systems
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • High level understanding of ISO26262 and ASPICE processes.
  • Strong knowledge of CAN-Bus, LIN, and Ethernet communications and protocols. 
  • Proven Leader: excellent communication, coaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent ability to build teams that perform and build relationships with other key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated focus on customer and customer service.
  • Must have commercial, business, and financial management experience (manage departmental budget)
