Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville to begin immediately. The successful applicant will work together with Prof. Yang Zhang, Dr. Kipton Barros and Prof. Cristian Batista on projects related to AI-assisted theoretical/computational modeling and collaborate with researchers from Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering. Research will involve feedback loops between theory and experiment, evaluating quantum materials design & growth and spectroscopy techniques such as neutron scattering and photoemission.
The successful applicant will work on the inverse scattering problem of learning models from data, the development of fast solvers of many-body problems relevant to the direct scattering problem and neural-network variational wavefunctions for interacting models.
The selected postdoctoral fellow is expected to pursue independent research within their area of interest outlined in the job description.
- Education: PhD in Physis, Materials Science, Chemistry, Computer Science or other discipline related to artificial intelligence. (PhD requirements must be fulfilled at time of application)
- Experience: A strong publication and research record.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Research experience in artificial intelligence for quantum systems/materials.

Compensation and Benefits
- Hiring Range: $62,878
