Job Description:

Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,200 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). DUTIES:
Assist outside customers from the court system to schedule incarcerated individuals to appear for court hearings via video or telephone. Assist attorneys in the visitation of their clients. Assist Presentence Investigation Officers in meeting with incarcerated individuals to complete pre-sentence investigations as assigned. Coordinate meetings between DHHS representatives and incarcerated individuals, to include visits between the incarcerated individual and their child(ren) as ordered by the court. Provide notary service to incarcerated individuals as needed. Prepare American Correctional Association (ACA) files and assists the Administrative Programs Officer II during ACA audits. Provide facility tours. Serve as a backup to the Administrative Programs Officer II in the preparation of litigation reports.


 

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in public or business administration, accounting, or any discipline related to the work assigned. One year of experience in administrative, business management or technical support work including collecting and interpreting statistical, financial, program, or administrative data; or interpreting laws, rules, regulations, and processes. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in the corrections field or a criminal justice setting. At least two years demonstrated experience in office administration, analyzing data, as well as planning and organizing information. Experience in records retention management. Experience using Microsoft Office.

Other: Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.


 

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge of: office management and record keeping methods and practices; administrative report preparation practices; federal and State laws and regulations governing work assigned.

Ability to: interact with immediate supervisor and senior managers, employees, and the public to gain their cooperation and to establish work relationships; formulate and recommend modifications to operational directives to attain agency goals; coordinate the activities necessary to arrange various conferences, hearings, and meetings; apply management practices, techniques, and methodologies to assigned activities; collect, assemble, and analyze facts and draw conclusions to recommend solutions to problems; identify and interpret program-administrative requirements, policies, and regulations to provide guidance and advice; organize and present facts and opinions to managers and groups; learn the structure, functions, goals, and policies of the employing agency.
