Internship Program Overview: Our 2026 Summer Internship Program is a paid 10-week internship program, scheduled to begin on June 8, 2026. Interns are expected to work full-time throughout the summer.  

Summer interns will join an intern class consisting of undergraduate and graduate students to work on exciting projects in one of EDC’s many dynamic departments. Summer Interns will also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.  

Department Overview: NYCEDC’s Asset Management (AM) Division manages the overall strategy for conventional and non-traditional assets across all five boroughs of New York City including commercial real estate properties as well as transportation, critical infrastructure, and energy assets. The Asset Management division pursues a triple-bottom line strategy, pursuing not only economic returns but also social outcomes such as job creation, equitable neighborhood growth, and the integration of sustainable and resilient practices. The overall assets are divided into multiple portfolios, each managed by an Asset Manager/SVP, with a Business Operations department that monitors and enforces standards and practices across the portfolio.    

The Commercial and Industrial department within the Asset Management Division oversees, develops, and actively manages a diverse citywide portfolio spanning nearly every asset type and stage of the real estate life cycle, including retail, mixed-use, office, industrial, and cultural properties. 

This internship will focus on the Commercial and Industrial South portfolio, which includes assets located in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island, with notable sites such as Coney Island, Willets Point, the Staten Island Ferry Terminals, and Empire Outlets. 

Intern Responsibilities:  

  • Working within Commercial and Industrial South portfolio on real estate assets that span across Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. 
  • Assist in market research, due diligence, and financial analysis for active and prospective projects. 
  • Assist in drafting Request for Proposals (RFPs), Scopes of Work, and feasibility analyses for leasing and development opportunities. 
  • Contribute to financial modeling and valuation of active assets and development opportunities. 
  • Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and memos for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Support lease negotiations and the preparation of related documents and analyses. 
  • Participate in project management, construction, and environmental remediation meetings. 
  • Engage with local stakeholders through task forces, community engagement initiatives, and public programming. 
  • Assist Portfolio Managers with lease administration, compliance tracking, and portfolio performance monitoring. 
  • Provide general support to the Commercial and Industrial South team on cross-departmental initiatives and special projects as needed. 

Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • Preferred field(s) of study: Real Estate, Urban Planning, or a related field. 
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply 
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC 
  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills  
  • Demonstrated experience in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word 
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines 
  • Ability to work
