Maintenance Manager - General Assembly

About the role

The General Assembly Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance team in ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety of all manufacturing equipment and systems within the General Assembly area. This role oversees preventive and corrective maintenance, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with safety and quality standards.

 

Core Hours: 5:00pm - 1:00am

Shift is subject to change based on business needs; Must be willing to work any shift.

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage a team of supervisors, specialists, and skilled trades in the General Assembly area
  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and automation issues
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to support operational goals
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies
  • Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and vendor relationships
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and generate reports on equipment performance and downtime
  • Support capital projects and equipment installations as needed
  • Direct activities around troubleshooting and programming in of the following: controls, robotics, drives and system level communication systems, glass cell systems, various conveyance systems, vision systems and sensors use and application.   
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree or journeyperson; and minimum of 8 years of industrial automation maintenance experience, including some supervisory experience. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with various levels of employees within all areas of the Plant from hourly represented employees to Senior Leadership as required.
  • Ability to build effective business relationships with plant leadership and customers.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members, supported by strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Goal oriented self-starter with ability to lead team.  
  • Experience in continuous improvement systems and lean manufacturing.   
  • Troubleshooting and programming experience in one of the following: controls, robotics, drives and system level communication systems, sealing systems, glass cell systems, and various conveyance systems 
  • Experience with machine, systems operation, and integration.   
  • Must possess a working knowledge of advanced technical problem-solving tools.   
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in technical/engineering field (i.e., BSME or BSEE) 
  • Previous experience working in a union environment
  • Production/maintenance supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment  
  • Familiar with lean manufacturing systems and implementation  
  • Seven or more years maintenance experience in a manufacturing/automotive environment   
  • Experience with RS Logic, PLC-5, Control Logics, Allen Bradley Drive Systems, machine installation, robotic automation, and application.
