Job Overview:

Under the direction of the department manager, this position is responsible for the day to day operations of the medical assistants and patient throughput. 
The Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of medical assistants to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. Assists the physician in examination and treatment of patients, performing miscellaneous delegated duties under the direction of a physician. This position interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts, and prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients. This position will be cross-trained to perform duties to enhance efficiency and continuity of delivery of patient care; work copperatively within the team concept demonstrating flexibility, motivation and commitment to quality patient care. Tasks include patient related duties, medical record maintenance/documentation, and safety/environmental duties. This position also serves as a direct contact to the manager and a mentor to the medical assistant staff and must lead by example. In collaboration with the manager, develops process changes to ensure patient safety and quality care/service to patients. 

Job Requirements:

Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program in
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), through AMT, NCCT, or NHA 
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by AAMA
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) 
Current, active RN or LPN licensure, or Respiratory Therapists or Technician credential, is also acceptable
EKG 
Injections 
Venipuncture 
Performance of common lab tests according to established CLIA guidelines and Trihealth policy
2-3 years experience 

Job Responsibilities:

Provides support to physicians/clinical staff. Skillfully performs/obtains tests and specimens assuring proper departmental procedures are followed. Performs technical skills according to hospital's and department's policies/procedures, appropriate competencies, and accepts standards of practice. Accurately documents patient care in chart, maintains confidentiality of patient records and files appropriate documentation in patient chart. 
Accurately and safely maintains general appearance and cleanliness of exam rooms, supply areas, and nurse's station. Disposes of contaminated equipment and disposable supplies in accordance with infection control guidelines. 
Demonstrates strong written, verbal and phone skills. Communicates appropriately and effectively with internal and external customers (i.e. team members, patients, families, other departments, etc). Relays accurate and complete information. Maintains confidentiality. Takes an active role in maintaining patient/physician satisfaction (i.e. way-finding, quick response to room lights/phones and customer requests, etc.). Demonstrates courtesy and respect toward patients, families, team members, and community professionals. 
In collaboration with the Department Manager, implements new processes as needed, organizes new hire orientation. Addresses/identifies issues in a professional and non-judgemental approach. Handles patient complaints and refers to manager as appropriate. Demonstrates flexibility and/or initiative in seeking for accepting additional assignments. Accountable for overseeing and directing medical assistant activity/assignments in collaboration with the Department Manager. Shows the ability to function successfully with minimal supervision. 
Demonstrates/maintains knowledge of organizational and unit changes. Supports organizational and unit changes. Works collaboratively with the department Manager to assure that proper policies and procedures are followed to meet the needs of the department. Acknowledges need for self growth and accountability. Identifies areas for self improvement. 
Assists by surveying and organizing patient supplies to maintain efficiency by informing the Manager of the need for ordering additional patient supplies/materials. Consistently checks supplies for expiration dates and discards expired supplies as in compliance with Joint Commission and Department of Health standards. Follows JCAHO and HIPAA protocols and ensures that medical assistant team members are aware of such protocols.
