Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Development will independently build and manage a portfolio of prospects through intentional pipeline development and strategic relationship building. This position is responsible for directly soliciting gifts of $5,000 or more to support the library, engaging alumni, prospects, donors, and community members, stewarding library supporters, and providing project management, assistance, and support for donor, prospect, and alumni engagement events.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, manage, and grow a portfolio of donor prospects through proactive qualification and cultivation, with an emphasis on soliciting gifts of $5,000+ and achieving a minimum fundraising goal of $250,000 annually.
- Write thank-you letters and create donor-centered materials (e.g., impact reports, proposals, case statements) in support of fundraising and stewardship initiatives.
- Coordinate cultivation and stewardship activities, including donor engagement opportunities and committee support related to fundraising.
- Support and attend division, department, and campus events to engage prospects and donors and advance fundraising objectives.

With strong interpersonal and communication skills, they can effectively engage with a wide range of individuals including donors, volunteers, faculty, and external partners and are comfortable soliciting donations both verbally and in writing. They demonstrate sound judgment in handling confidential information and clerical tasks and can manage multiple priorities independently while meeting deadlines. Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, databases, email, web pages, and social media is essential, along with the ability to build collaborative relationships across campus and with external stakeholders.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of related experience required.
• Higher Education and fundraising experience preferred.
Physical Summary
- Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,274- $7,684 per month.
Time Base
1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
