Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

 

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The PRN Associate Chaplain provides spiritual care to all patients, families, and staff in need of such services. The PRN Associate Chaplain role is intended to solely provide coverage for both scheduled time-off and unanticipated absences.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi’s mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi’s values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development, and Excellence
  • Provides Emergency Department/Intensive Care coverage
  • Performs unit visitation, as assigned
  • Responds to all ‘Code’ pages while on-duty, unless otherwise specified
  • Performs Psychiatric, Correctional Healthcare and outpatient visitation as requested
  • Coordinates/implements Spiritual Care response in crisis situations until relieved by senior staff
  • Assists, as needed, with management of ‘Haven of Hope’ family respite rooms
  • Provides ministerial services, commensurate with incumbent’s own spiritual tradition
  • Secures provision of ministerial services for those with differing spiritual traditions
  • Provides spiritual counseling to those in need
  • Provides assistance in matters related to Advanced Directives
  • Advocates on behalf of patients in the absence of a Patient Advocate
  • Provides respectful post-mortem care for deceased patients, and assists in documentation and release of such patients.

 

ASSOCIATED JOB DUTIES:

 

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Successful completion of a denominationally approved/mandated educational program
  • Minimum of two years of previous ministerial experience (health care background preferred)
  • Minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education or documentation of a minimum of three years as a professional chaplain in a health care organization.
  • Must be ordained/endorsed (or equivalent), and in good standings with their ecclesiastical body
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license

  • Ability to direct efforts in crisis situation when on duty
  • Knowledge of multiple modalities of ministry
  • Demonstrates positive professional interaction with interdisciplinary team and community representatives
  • Demonstrates flexibility to meet needs of the department
