About the Role & Team

In the Manager, Software Engineering role, we are seeking someone with a passion to lead and develop a team of hardworking multi-disciplinary resources. We are a fast-paced group tasked with delivering cross platform coordinated Disney experiences that define the interactions of our guests and change the way they experience our digital and physical assets. Our group enjoys a high level of autonomy and exposure to all parts of Disney and all levels of the organization. As a member of the DX Technology & Digital team, this role will be responsible for leading the delivery and execution of projects for Guest Experience technologies and applications. This includes leading web development, mobile application development, services development, and software engineering teams that develop guest facing applications for Experience Access.

The successful candidate requires technical knowledge and skills that are broad and deep, covering various software and platforms and a consistent record of implementing best-fit technically architected solutions that align to business goals, including project management. The candidate must be comfortable operating in sophisticated heterogeneous technology environments and have experience with delivering highly coordinated scalable, resilient and critically important solutions. This is a highly collaborative role where partnership with many different non-technical lines of business and other technology teams will be necessary.

This is a hybrid role that sits primarily in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor elite multi-functional delivery teams consisting of software engineers, web developers, application architects, testers, business analysts, and others. These teams will be a combination Cast Members and Consultants/Contractors in various locations (onshore and offshore).
  • Responsible for technical analysis, effort estimation, product and system design, evaluating architectural fit and compliance, resource schedules, delivery achievements and overall product quality
  • Resolve conflicts by demonstrating leadership and appropriate decision-making proficiencies
  • Display technical leadership and oversight of implementation and deployment planning, system integration, ongoing data validation processes, quality assurance, delivery, operations and sustainability of technical solutions
  • Tightly integrate with key technology and functional partners and ensure that products are built in a platform-centric manner
  • Implement and grow a culture passionate about quality and guest-centricity
  • Ensure alignment between technology investments and business capability roadmaps
  • Ensure that the platform is metrics and performance driven
  • Provide the overall vision and direction for development and platform architecture
  • Ensure alignment with other key technology functions such as strategy programs, business analysis, quality assurance, reference architecture, portfolio management, etc
  • Ensure multiple concurrent ongoing projects and team objectives are resourced effectively to accomplish goals.
  • Meet with collaborators, vendor partners and customers on a recurring basis to review team priorities, execution and pertinent business/delivery updates.
  • Effectively lead project/solution timeline and financials including budget, cost, invoices and contracts.
  • Support on-call response to critical operational issues; be able to work beyond normal hours and support implementation transition activities and hyper-care shifts as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of development experience.
  • 4+ years running/leading highly technical specialists.
  • Experience with Java/J2EE architectures.
  • Experience with AWS technologies.
  • Experience creating architecture designs that incorporate resiliency and performance.<
