Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable and delivered on time.  Life Cycle Engineering consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers.  Our Life Cycle Engineering disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation.  Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability System Safety and Supportability.


What You Will Do:
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Software Safety Engineer to join us on the Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety team in Tewksbury, MA or Marlborough, MA.

As a Software Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing engineering software, and/or firmware, IAW MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52, etc.
  • Working with software development teams to review and analyze embedded software code
  • Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through deployment to gain concurrence with software builds

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Assisting with Software and/or Firmware analyses
  • Participating in the execution of Software System Safety Programs
  • Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
  • Assisting with preparation of Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
  • Assisting with software safety technical reviews
  • Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design

This position is posted as ONSITE and can be based at either Raytheon’s Marlborough, MA or Tewksbury, MA locations.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically Requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and a minimum 2 years of relevant experience. 
  • Experience with Software Safety Engineering, Software Engineering, System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Safety Engineering
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
  • Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
