Why this role matters
The Salvation Army Homelessness Melbourne Metro is a large Salvation Army Homelessness provider in the inner city of Melbourne and provides a comprehensive range of residential & community services across six sites in St Kilda, Footscray, North Melbourne, West Melbourne and Kensington.
The Kitchen Hand position is part of the Homelessness Melbourne Metro Regional Catering team that provide services to Resident service sites at Flagstaff Accommodation in West Melbourne, The Open Door in North Melbourne and Foley House in Footscray.
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Kitchen Hand. Reporting to the Head Chef, this is a permanent, part-time position, 22.8 hours per week (0.6 FTE).Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award, level 1.
You will successfully:
- Undertake kitchen hand duties as directed which ensures that the kitchen area complies with the minimum Health Department standards.
- To provide all services in such a way as to respect the rights and dignity of residents.
- To provide quality food and kitchen services which meets or exceeds staff and residents’ food and service requirements
- Receive and store kitchen supplies as required
- Clean and maintain Kitchen premises and equipment
- Assist with serving of food at Foley House, Open Door & Flagstaff for lunch & dinner
- Use the Kronos (employment attendance system) by punching in/out at the start and end of shifts
- Be able to drive the catering services van to the sites and maintain the cleanliness
- Record of all food, freezer & refrigeration • Appropriate use of all personal protective safety equipment such as disposable gloves
You will have (Requisite Skills & Qualifications)
- An awareness and understanding of the common presenting issues associated with people experiencing homelessness
- Experience in a residential setting and a Food Handlers Certificate would be desirable and this will be provided to any applicants who do not have this certification
- Certificate 1 in Hospitality Kitchen Operations (or equivalent) or demonstrated equivalent relevant experience, knowledge and skills
- A national police record check is required
- A current Working with Children Check or relevant state equivalent is a mandatory requirement
- Victorian Drivers Licence
- Disclosure of pre-existing health conditions that may impact on fulfilling position requirements
- Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date.
