Central FillJob SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician Lead, under general supervision of a pharmacist, is the subject matter expert for the assigned specialty area and performs advanced technical tasks within the pharmacy department. Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialty areas of pharmacy practice. Works with pharmacy leadership to develop competencies and standard work within the designated area of expertise.
Essential Functions:
- Fills, delivers and dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Develops and performs advanced technical tasks in defined specialty areas such as medication histories, sterile and non-sterile preparation, payer adjudication, call center, clinical pharmacy support, pharmacy automation, inventory management including controlled substance handling and accountability, and repackaging. Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information. (60%)
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, peers, nurses, and providers to improve patient outcomes and quality metrics in both general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice. Identifies and completes operational improvement projects with intent to present/publish. Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed. (20%)
- Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care. Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately. (10%)
- Is the subject matter expert for their specialty area of designated responsibility. Provides and updates content for pharmacy technician training education and materials, department standard work, and Denver Health policies. Trains and precepts pharmacy technicians and students in areas of experience and expertise in accordance with training or course protocol. (10%)
Education:
- Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required and
- Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Completion of a pharmacy technician training program, preferred
Work Experience:
- 1-3 years Three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience in a healthcare or retail pharmacy setting Required
Licenses:
- CPHT-Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Required and
- PHAT-Licensed Pharmacy Technician - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required and
- PBID-Pharmacy Based Immunization Delivery - ACPE-Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education Required and
- PTCB Education/Training Certificate - PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Required and
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work as a team member
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of basic and advanced pharmacy practices and procedures
- Project management and process improvement skills
- Mathematical computation skills
- Organization and communication skills
- Good typing, keyboarding and proofreading skills
- Ability to work independently within pharmacy scope of practice
- Knowledge of prescription processing and third-party billing, if applicable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, preferred
- Proficiency with Epic, preferred
