Requirements and Nature of Work:

The RA will be responsible for administrative, research, and support duties that include:

  • Regularly reporting to the Senior Editor

  • Working with the Senior Editor to research and plan special issues (e.g., early childhood science and/or STEM)

  • Collating and keeping an up-to-date list of individual manuscript progress, using Excel or another program

  • Exploring other Springer journals and similar journals in the field (including smaller independent or student journals), and providing suggested updates or changes to IJSME’s author guidelines

  • Helping to identify potential diverse reviewers for manuscripts (a task that is becoming increasing more difficult)

  • Identifying barriers or challenges prospective authors may face when navigating the IJSME platform and using IJSME guidelines and materials

  • Ensuring confidentiality and professionalism

  • Acting as a liaison as needed via emails and other written communications

  • Ensuring deadlines are met

  • Performing other administrative support as required

The ideal candidate will have theoretical and/or practical experience in science and/or mathematics education. They will have previous experience with the peer review process and will be comfortable with APA format (including mechanics of style). The ideal candidate will also be an effective communicator with strong organizational skills. Lived experience, as it pertains to the RAship, will also be considered.
