Project description

Virtual brains for research

The complexity of the human brain poses a significant challenge to the investigation and hence understanding of the mechanisms governing its function and dysfunction. Digital twins are virtual models designed to reflect physical objects and offer an attractive approach for neuroscience research. The EU-funded eBRAIN-Health project will generate such virtual models of patients and healthy controls to study dementia, an important societal and medical issue. Researchers will process and combine molecular, cellular, physiology and behavioural data into a clinical research infrastructure. Simulating the human brain will assist the prediction of dementia risk as well as the development of health innovations.

Tasks to be performed:

Work in a team developing complex multiscale computational biophysical brain modeling and simulation services.

The tasks are (WP6):

• Help develop dynamic principles of aging and neurodegeneration

• Help develop the in silico simulation demonstrator.

• Model validation and investment workflows

• Analysis of neuroimaging data

• Develop simulations and modeling through large-scale biophysical models of the human brain, including (1) Architecture, (2) Validation of methods, (3) Integration of models into existing frameworks, and (4) Validation with experimental neuroimaging data .

The duration of these tasks is estimated over a period of 6 months.

Group and complement: Group 3 Level u

Dedication and working hours: Full time (35h/week).

Planned remuneration approx: 28.676,14 € gross per year

Financing fund: Project PREUR00922 - HEu-INFRA-eBRAIN-Health-101058516-G.Deco, “eBRAIN-Health - Actionable Multilevel Health Data”, financed by the EUROPEAN UNION, program Horizon Europe (2021-2027).

Qualifications

Requirements: 

• High school-FP2.

The expected start date is February 3rd 2025, the job is in Barcelona.

Selection criteria: The selection of the candidates will be made through evaluation of the curriculum and, where appropriate, with the carrying out a test and/or interview. Valuation will be as follows:

1- Academic Training (0-20 points).

• Master in Neuroscience or similar.

2- Other professional training and experience, adequacy to the proposed profile (0-60 points):

• Demonstrable knowledge (publications and presentations) of fMRI analysis and modeling.

3- Other merits (0-20 points):

• Good knowledge of MATLAB and Python.

• High level of English.

The minimum score to pass the selection process is 70 points. The candidate with the highest score in the selection process will be offered the job.
