About the role

Job Overview

The Supplier FSQA Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of materials and components sourced from external suppliers. Responsibilities include conducting audits, implementing quality control measures, collaborating with suppliers to resolve quality issues and provide routine support related to commercial product and new product introduction. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports all Supplier FSQA aspects relating to Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory for Great Lakes Cheese.
  • Supports all supplier related product recall, withdrawal, crisis management with cross-functional teams on process development and execution when events occur.
  • Liaises cross functionally with Procurement, Customer Service, Sales & Operations, through Food Safety and Quality operations at all Great Lakes Cheese manufacturing facilities.
  • Manages the day-to-day experience for all Supplier FSQA aspects; including all information requests, and customer/consumer quality complaints.
  • Executes the implementation of supplier related workflows and processes for best in industry speed, accuracy and efficiency.
  • Supports Sr. Manager to drive improved tracking, trending, reporting of QA performance to ensure the organization has visibility to challenges and priorities for improvement.   
  • Maintains the FSQA relationship for external supplier partners alongside, or independently of, peers and leadership.
  • Assists in monitoring and notifying Corp. FSQA team of new, emerging or changing supplier concerns.
  • Oversees the daily operation of the supplier deficiency reporting system, ensuring timely follow-up with supplier responses. 
  • Collaborates with Procurement in actively vetting, validating and approving new suppliers.     
  • Owns all raw material specification records and communicates with cross-functional teams as updates occur. 
  • Manages Trace Gains system daily by reviewing all incoming supplier-level documents, new and current suppliers.                                                                                                                                                           
  • Leads onsite audits for all new suppliers (ingredients, product contact packaging, and warehouses) and prepares audit reports and corrective actions.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Manager, Supplier FSQA.
  • All GLC employees are expected to perform any assignment or job task according to the stated safety policies and procedures.
  • All GLC employees are expected to produce our products in a manner that exceeds the quality and value expectation of our customers and consumers by adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Policies and Procedures outlined in our Safe Quality Food Program.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Food Science or related field
  • 3 years of technical service related experience in the food industry or more
  • 3 years of operations/project management experience or more
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to think independently with strong organizational and planning
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve beyond routine issues Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
     

Preferred Education and Experience

• SAP experience. 

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in an office setting.• Occasional exposure to industrial operations including: temperature extremes from approximately 35ºF to 100ºF; noise levels in excess of 85 dB; moisture and moving machinery.
